Biography

La Laguna 1906 - Paris 1957

Oscar Domínguez, Surrealist painter and craftman, was born in the Canary Islands on January 7th, 1906. The Spanish artist established an artistic center in Tenerife island in 1928 after a brief stay in Paris. In 1934, he returned to the French capital and devoted himself to Surrealist objects. At the same time, he invented the decalcomania, a copy technique that Max Ernst later adopted. His affinities with abstraction in 1939 largely isolated Domínguez from the Surrealists. On December 31th, 1957, Oscar Domínguez ended up his life in Paris.
