Painter, designer, decorator and creator of fabrics and furniture, Raoul Dufy is the author of an eclectic work, full of life and fantasy.
The exhibition takes you in the footsteps of this young Norman artist who, getting off his train at Gare Saint-Lazare, discovered the capital at the beginning of the 20th century and, from the top of the Butte Montmartre, the Parisian panorama with its spiky landscape of monuments that will not leave him until his death.
The exhibition focuses on the particularity of his way of representing the city and brings together Dufy's Parisian works. It pays homage to this artist who occupied one of the studios at 12 rue Cortot - where the Musée de Montmartre is located today. From 1911 onwards, he set up his studio a stone's throw from the museum at 5 impasse de Guelma, which was to remain his anchorage in Paris throughout his life.
On the occasion of the exhibition: Le Paris de Raoul Dufy, Helene Bailly Gallery will lend two works by Raoul Dufy "Paris, Livre d'or de Marianne" (1927) and "La rue Vieille du Temple à Paris" (circa 1904) to the Musée de Montmartre.
