  • CUBISME
  • HELENE BAILLY is a Parisian art gallery that exhibits works from the Cubist movement, featuring artists such as Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Henri Laurens, and Jean Metzinger.

A major artistic movement of the early 20th century, Cubism revolutionized traditional methods of pictorial representation. By rejecting perspective and avoiding faithful imitation of reality, Cubist artists like Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, and Georges Braque introduced a new way of seeing the world through geometric forms—rectangles, squares, cylinders—where objects lost their realistic appearance in favor of a more intellectual structure.

However, these representations should not be seen as abstract; they are rather a deconstruction of reality.

As for color, especially in the early 20th century, the palette was often limited to muted tones—gray, brown, beige—which served to highlight the construction of form.

More than just a style, Cubism in painting is a reflection on how we perceive and represent the world. In this sense, it paved the way for new artistic styles and laid the foundations for abstraction.
