BIOGRAPHY

Paris 1883 - Le Vésinet 1955

Maurice Utrillo, born Maurice Valadon, is the son of the painter Suzanne Valadon. It is by her side that Utrillo studied painting. His production is characterized by views and streets of Montmartre rendered in white and gray tones. Utrillo was successful; his artworks were appreciated and often exhibited. In 1929, France awarded him the Légion d'Honneur. Nowadays, Utrillo's urban landscapes of Montmartre can be seen at Boston's Fine Art Art Museum, San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art, Paris's Musée de Montmartre or London's Courtauld Institute.
